Why is internet slow on laptops in my network?

I have a home network where my linksys WRT54 is connected with my desktop. I have two laptops and internet is working very slow on both of them. It says network cable is unplugged. Why is internet so slow on laptops when the desktop seems to work fine.

alright, is other peoples’ internet fast on these laptops? it might just be that the laptops themselves are slow.
and is your desktop plugged in, or is it also wireless? if it is wireless, then i’d check all the settings on your laptops to make sure everything is okay. it’ll give you the "network cable unplugged" message because the linksys WRT54 is wireless, so you aren’t physically "plugging in".
Hi
Sometimes your network needs a power cycle. The linksys may have a blue cable running to your desktop – which is connected to the internet – therefore the desktop would maintain its speed.
As for the 2 laptops, are they wireless?
If so then you may want to power cycle the router – unplug it for 10 seconds; and/or if there is a reset button – use that – it is usually alittle pin hole – need a pin or pen to reset it. Then replug the router and turn it on.
This will reconnect both laptops correctly.
Sometimes after a power cycle, you may have to look at the settings on the two laptops and make sure they are on the linksys you have. If the laptops pick up other wireless connectivity – they have a chance of being slower. So make sure you are on the right network.
Make sure your router is locked – encrypted because if not others can use your wireless connection – which will slow down your laptops.
Hope this helped.
It may be because of ip settings. Just check out your ip settings may be it helps.
